You might well remember a couple of month back we wrote about Icelandic pop singer Thorunn Antonia and her new single ‘So High’. Back then we called her “a genuinely exciting new pop discovery“. Well now she’s just released her debut (solo) album ‘Star Crossed’, and guess what – we were absolutely right!
We’ve decided to give the whole album a post on here as there’s a VERY REAL danger of it going completely under the radar otherwise. She’s so far only released the album in her native Iceland (although people from outside of Iceland can buy it from this Icelandic music store here). And it would be a real shame if this went too far under the radar, as it’s a fantastic album which deserves a lot of recognition for being as great as it is.
Think Tove Styrke crossed with Vanbot. With a little bit of Kylie thrown in. But as Thorunn Antonia is from a whole other region of the Nordics, one which has never actually exported a popstar making music of this genre before, ‘Star Crossed’ still manages to sound somewhat unique.
For us at least, it’s one of those albums where it’s been quite difficult to pick a favourite song. Out of the ten tracks, NINE of them crossed our minds as possibly being the best. NINE. And no, we won’t name and shame the sole one that didn’t stand out, as that’s still quite a tune too, bless its little heart (ok, it was ‘Out Of Touch’). In the end though, we decided upon ‘Lovers In The Night’, which we’re streaming below. And perhaps the aforementioned ‘So High’ actually ties with it in pole position.
Anyway, what’s most important of all, is that someone has uploaded the whole album onto YouTube. So you can actually listen to it all right here. And that really does come HIGHLY recommended from us. So yeah, do it.
