A new kind of girlband from Sweden. From Boden in Sweden. An electrorock girlband. The Glorias.
We got a press release this week about their new single ‘In Ruins’, which included a link to their Soundcloud page featuring previous single ‘Norah’, and another, superior track ‘Caught In A Nightmare’. But no ‘In Ruins’. Right then.
While we wait for ‘In Ruins’ to be uploaded to their Soundcloud page, let’s enjoy what we’ve got. And there’s lots to enjoy. Particularly ‘Caught In A Nightmare’. An angst ridden, synth pop, dream sequence. Or rather – nightmare sequence. Can you imagine if Norwegian popstar Annie suddenly got very angry and started shouting at everyone? It would sound something like this.
‘Norah’ is the quieter sister of the two. And there are more echoes of Annie, thanks largely to the singer Jill’s vocals. The opening synth is a beauty. But really, our favourite part is where it ALL GOES OFF from 2:15 onwards.
The Glorias are: Signe Lindahl (drums), Stina Vikström (synth), Lina Bäcklund (bass), Emma Larsson (guitar, vocals), and Jill Holmgren (singer). And we’re glad they’ve decided to join us.
Here are the two songs (and ‘Norah’ has been released as a single outside of their native Sweden too. The aforementioned ‘In Ruins’ is Spotifiable);
