Anyone for a new Swedish boyband? Of course! Meet Level5 everyone. And in particular, the marvellous debut single of theirs that they released today.
Level5 have been formed by Victoria Ekeberg (September, Daniel Oliver, Lucky Twice, Gathania, Daniela, SOJO, etc etc etc – amazing), and today saw the release of their first single and video, ‘My Number One’.
They’ve taken the quite unusual boyband step of having a GIRL feature on their debut release. Ok then. It’s Sarah Tjulander, and she joins in on the vocal duties.
The song is a great big POP moment! They have more in common with the boyband sound of the late 90s than they do with the boyband sound of today – thus instantly earning them bonus points from us. ‘My Number One’ is a mid-tempo ballad affair with a sublimely catchy chorus – reminiscent of something that Cheiron would have thrown to the Americans back in the day. If you’re not impressed on first listen, DO come back for a second listen – because that chorus does stick. We shan’t reveal how many listens we’ve already indulged in today. It’s embarrassing.
‘My Number One’ is written by Nicklas Eklund (also the producer), Joel DeLuna and Kevin Borg (Swedish Idol winner 2008)
Band members: Johan Larsson, Viktor Wallskog, Martin Isberg, Ervin Dzaferovic (and for this release – the world’s first female boyband member – Sarah Tjulander!). Regular Scandipop readers may remember we wrote an introductory piece about the chaps last summer (and you can listen to another song of theirs in that post too).
Listen to the song and watch the video (warning – contains toplessnessness within mere seconds);
