On Monday, Sweden gets the release of a brand new dancepop tune that’s getting us VERY excited here at scandipop. In Styles (Swedish producer Mike Perry) has drafted in fellow Swede, Kerima, and together they’ve come up with a huge portion of high calorie scandipop that’s right up our admittedly often one-way street!
‘Tis a cover of an old Marie Fredriksson (of Roxette) hit from the 80’s. Uncompromisingly catchy, and with a melody so saccharine that it’s every diabetic’s worst nightmare! It one of those songs that you’re either going to love unconditionally, or love to hate with a passion. It’s the soundtrack to an alcohol fuelled Swedish teenage party at 2am, when they keep going back to one song and playing it on repeat, and you’ve long given up on getting any sleep that night!
So, a cover of an 80’s hit, but obviously with a rather banging 2011 production, however – we think it’s more of a kindred spirit to our absolute favourite era of pop, the turn of the century when the late 90’s met the early 00’s. That’s not to say it sounds dated, because it doesn’t, it’s just that it epitomises the unashamed fun of eurodance around that time. It’s been tailored towards holiday resorts and those aforementioned student parties, just as much as it has been for the club dancefloor. And with a bit of luck, it’ll hopefully be played to death on all three of those circuits this summer!
