Icona Pop have today confirmed and premiered what will be the international follow up single to the international SMASH (it’s just a matter of weeks in the UK now – the last country to catch on) ‘I Love It’.
It’s ‘Girlfriend’!
‘Girlfriend’ is an upbeat and jaunty pop number which shouts and chants (if it ain’t broke don’t fix it) and samples ‘Me & My Girlfriend’ by 2Pac (which was later sampled by Beyonce & Jay Z). What Icona Pop have done with the sample though, is totally different. They’ve practically electrocuted it – in electro-fying it. But with an irresistible amount of their special brand of ‘fun’ injected into proceedings. It’s the same kind of fun and frivolity that exuded from ‘I Love It’ so successfully. And while we didn’t see anything wrong with the Swedish follow-up single ‘We Got The World’ – we do reckon that ‘Girlfriend’ will charm its way into the hearts of millions of Americans just as easily as ‘I Love It’ did.
