Icona Pop have today released a brand new single exclusively in their native Sweden. We don’t really see the need for such territorial restrictions on monetary income, seeing as how the internet exists. But there you go.
What matters is that it’s NEW ICONA POP MUSIC, and what matters even more is that it’s GOOD ICONA POP MUSIC. It’s ‘Get Lost’. A song that is as Icona Pop as Icona Pop get. The archetypal Icona Pop sound. ‘Get Lost’ would have sounded very much in place on their ‘This Is…’ album. It has lots in common with their other single from last year, ‘All Night’. It’s very much in the same mold. Quite the mold too, we think you’ll agree.
We’ve given up wondering whether Icona Pop are still chasing that elusive second hit single. Or perhaps Icona Pop themselves have given up even trying. Their sporadic release schedule could suggest either really. But when the music is as good as it consistently has been since their inception, then it really doesn’t matter. Still though, another monster hit would at least pay for another album’s worth of material from them, wouldn’t it? Which would do quite nicely. And ‘Get Lost’ could well be the one to do it. If they ever get around to releasing it outside of Sweden.
‘Get Lost’ is written by Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt of the duo, along with Grizzly and Anjulie Persaud.
