One of the most heartwarming things in reality TV show pop music, is when big success stories of the genre, pay homage to their roots and come back to where it all started. Take the UK’s X Factor for example, when Leona Lewis returned to perform ‘Bleeding Love’, Alexandra Burke took over the stage for ‘Bad Boys’, or when Shayne Ward came back for ‘Breathless’. And whenever JLS have returned too. They remind you that what you’re watching really did shape a considerable part of pop’s current day legacy. A shining example of the fact that these shows can make great popstars AND great pop music.
Well Anna Abreu did just that in Finland this month when she returned to the Idol programme from which she was spawned, to perform her current single. It’s ‘Worst Part Is Over’, the second song released from her fourth album, ‘Rush’. She’s arguably Finnish Idol’s biggest success, having managed to carve herself a consistent series of hit albums and singles. We personally love Anna for the genius career move that was making a dance pop album for her third release, 2009’s ‘Just A Pretty Face?’. That record was, and still is, MEGA. And ‘Rush’, though in its early days, isn’t too far behind it.
‘Worst Part Is Over’ is an r&b ballad. Not our favourite Anna moment, admittedly, but a wise single choice in that it’s giving Finland something different, and perhaps will win over those that weren’t impressed by the likes of ‘Music Everywhere’ and ‘Hysteria’.
